SAMPLE STUDENT PAPER

The files linked below show the progression of a single student through first paper in English 102 on The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.  The first document is a sample of the annotations the student made while reading the novel.  The second document is a copy of the second draft of the paper that I marked during a student conference.  The third document is the graded final version of the paper with typed comments and a completed rubric.  Finally, the last document is the student's hand written note documenting what he is most proud of with the paper, his biggest concern about the final draft, what he would change if he had more time, and how he will approach the next paper based on the experience he had writing this paper.

I am particularly pleased with the changes that occurred on page 2 of the paper: on the draft, we discussed the use of "I" and "self" in passage he had identified, and based on that conversation, the writer significantly developed the intellectual basis for his argument.
